DIY Adventure - March 2024
Description:
DIY Adventure is a one-day pop-up exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Memphis, highlighting local craftspeople and artisans. It encourages children to engage in hands-on learning, exploration and discovery — all key components of CMOM’s mission. By demonstrating your profession, you give children the opportunity to explore tactile activities and walk away with items they made themselves.
This will be our second DIY Adventure at CMOM. This time it will be in the foyer near the carousel, and we expect twice as many children. As for times, setup will start at 9 AM and the event is planned to run from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. If you are not able to attend the entire event, we are also open to you scheduling either a morning or afternoon session.

August 24, 2024, General Meeting TURN A HEART ON TWO AXES
Description:
-Featured in American Woodturner Magazine - Feb. 2024
There are many ways to create a wooden heart. Some methods avoid the lathe entirely (hand- or power-carving, band- or scroll-sawing), and others utilize the lathe but rely on split-turning or deconstruction-reconstruction techniques. Here I present a method to create a heart on the lathe via multiaxis turning. This
is a fun intermediate-level process that involves spindle turning, face grain turning, drilling on the lathe, and a bit of end grain hollowing at the top of the form.
