Mastering the Chainsaw for Woodturners: Full Day Demonstration
This in the past this has be a very poplar and educational event. Our September demo will be by club member and professional arborist Joel Benson. He will guide us through the process of raw wood management for woodturning, different blank cuttings, and chainsaw maintenance for woodturners.

About the event
MSWG Booth and Demo Tent
This year’s Pink Palace Crafts Fair will be at the Pink Palace Museum grounds.
MSWG's Booth Fee “costs”- (25% of gross sales or $950 max Fee)
Demo “revenue” - $300 from the Pink Palace Crafts Fair
This is one of the club's major fund raisers for the year.
Booth will be located on the right side of the Crafts Fair entrance (which will be through the Pink Palace entrance to craft fair grounds).
Sales booth will be the corner location at the first entrance to the Fairgrounds (right hand side).
Live Demo tent (supplied by MSWG Club) will be adjacent to the Demo Tent.
Club Member Sales Commission:
All members are encouraged to bring their turnings pre-priced in whole dollar increments with a ¾”x1” sticker or tag with members' initials.
Members who take at least two (2) shifts will split sales revenue 25% to Club, 75% to Artisan.
Members who do not participate for 2 or more shifts will split sales revenue 35% to Club, 65% to Artisan.
Reminder - your turnings need to be pre-priced in whole dollar increments with a ¾”x1” sticker or tag with members' initials.
54th Pink Palace Crafts Fair Live Demonstrations
We need your help at the live demonstration tent. There will be two (2) lathes in the live demonstration tent with spinning tops as the focus of the turning.
Event Details
Due to the daily high heat expected this year, shift times will be modified to allow for plenty of hydration and flexibility breaks. Live Demo Tent Chair Joseph Voda will be at the fair all three days to aid in this.
There will be two (2) lathes in the Demonstration tent with spinning tops as the focus of the turning. (Reasoning for the newer members: to engage children while parents/guardians take turns to view/purchase the items for sale)
Items to be turned WILL BE spindle items: spinning tops, "cooking oil bottle stoppers" (NOT to be called wine stoppers around children), weed pots, and small one-piece ornaments.
Members must supply their own blanks for weed -pots and ornaments and a means (special chuck) to hold bottle stopper blanks. [Anyone with questions of how we will turn bottle stoppers and weed-pots, call me and I will explain, or offer lessons!]
On items other than tops, the club will provide a turner’s friction polish or wax and paper towels to complete the process! Demonstrators may provide their own cloth scraps, if they choose!
NO Pens (no one to do assembly) and NO Bowls!
We will be following the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) vital safety protocols for woodturning.
Each demonstrator is responsible for bringing turning and any texturing tools they want to use. No-one is to leave turning tools in the tents on Museum grounds overnight for any reason - take them home and bring them back! The same rules apply to your personal folding chair. We have no idea how much space we actually will have, so bivouac in and out!
