The Mid-South Woodturners Guild continues to support the National Beads of Courage program even with COVID restrictions in place.  Mike Maffitt, Bob Wolfe, Skip Wilbur, and others have not stopped making their striking and unique boxes for patients at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.  As we have in the past, your BOD will announce another weekend box-making event once we are able to meet in person and in groups.  As we concern ourselves with COVID’s implications we should all remember the seriousness of these children’s diseases.  We invite all members to make Beads of Courage Boxes.
The program was born a decade ago and many people across the nation make writing pens for our troops seeing action overseas. Our chapter produces close to 200 pens a year and we make this project one of our special production weekends that we try to tie in with a public event like a BBQ contest to draw attention to our craft and the reason behind our making of these pens. We have met several of our military who have received one of these pens and their appreciation is what keeps us making even more pens.
