The Mid-South Woodturners Guild continues to support the National Beads of Courage program even with Covid restrictions in place.  Mike Maffit, Bob Wolfe, and others have not stopped making their striking and unique Courage boxes for the very sick children at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.  As we have in the past your BOD will soon announce another weekend box-making event.  As we concern ourselves with COVID’s implications we should remember the seriousness of these children’s diseases.  Let’s all make some Beads of Courage Boxes.
The program was born a decade ago and many people across the nation produce writing pens for our troops seeing action overseas. We produce close to 200 pens a year and we make it one of our special production weekends that we try to tie in with a public event, like a bbq contest, to draw attention to our craft and the reason behind the product. We have met several of our military who have received one of these pens.
The Empty Bowls charity is focused on producing bowls of your art form and donating them to an event that raises money to feed the local hungry people in that given city. The event highlights local restaurants and artists and for the price of a ticket you receive a crafted bowl and all of the soup you care to try by some fabulous local restaurants and chefs.
